As the artist duo Hennicker-Schmidt, we have been working together since 2013. Our shared interest in the physical engagement with spaces and objects, as well as our desire for collaborative processes of development, brought us together as a duo. We work with objects, spaces, video, language, and performance, combining these diverse elements into multimedia installations and environments.
Thematically, our work is closely connected to our lived everyday experience and explores the relationship between human beings and their surroundings. These surroundings may take the form of landscapes, buildings, objects, or other people. We aim to create symbolic constellations that point toward broader contemporary issues.
Our own bodies are fundamental to our working methodology. The embodied experience of a place or situation, or a physically perceived state of being, is usually the point of departure for our works. From this concrete experience, both form and content gradually emerge.
